Verizon has this week announced some big changing to their plans including new features and pricing. The new plans add a bit of extra data to the previous lineup while also offering more for that money. The changes are as follows:
- Small: $35/month for 2 GB (was $30/month for 1GB)
- Medium: $50/month for 4 GB (was $45/month for 3GB)
- Large: $70/month for 8 GB (was $60/month for 6GB)
- X-Large: $90/month for 16 GB (was $80/month for 12GB)
- XX-Large: $110/month for 24 GB (was $100/month for 18GB)
Obviously price hikes are never great, but for the extra data available and as small as they are, I doubt anyone will have much to complain about here. A perk with these new plans is that unused data will carry over. As an example, say you’ve got 8GB and only use 5GB during a billing cycle. The following month you’ll be credited with an extra 3GB, but that will only stick around for a single billing cycle. Not the ideal setup for carryover data, but better than nothing, right?
Alongside that Verizon has also add two new data features, Safety Mode and Data Boost. Data Boost is an optional, anytime 1GB addition to your plan, regardless of size, for an extra $15. Safety Mode on the other hand will not require any overage charges, but will simply throttle your speeds after you’ve hit the limit. This is something we’ve seen from numerous carriers, namely T-Mobile, but Verizon has really put their own twist on it. Rather than just automatically turning this on for all accounts, like everyone else does, they charge you for it! $5 a month might not seem like much, but in reality you’re paying Verizon for the ability to throttle you. Yes it’s as crazy as it sounds.
All of these features are now live alongside a revamped Android app. The new My Verizon app gets a huge makeover with easier access to standard features such as seeing your data/minute usage. Previously Verizon’s app were, well let’s just say not great, but this one is actually pretty awesome. If you’re a Verizon customer like me be sure to give it a shot.Source: Verizon
