Are PC’s being killed of by tablets and smartphones? Right now projected statistics are saying that more tablets will be shipped in the last three months of 2013 than PC’s. Now this does not mean that more tablets will be sold than PC’s. But that’s just not yet. It is still estimated that more PC’s will be sold this year than that of tablets, but tablets are quickly closing that gap. It is estimated that by 2015 tablet shipments will overtake that of PC’s. Smartphone still overtake every other category by a very large margin though. It is estimated that over 1.4 billion smartphones will be sold in 2015.

Smartphones actually take up 69% of shipments worldwide while tablets take up 14%. The remaining 17% are PC’s. Over the upcoming years however, PC’s are expected to take a hit while tablets take the upperhand. The market share of smartphones probably won’t change very much though. What is really interesting though is that even though the percentages are changing so much, sales are growing across the board. The key to the higher growth in tablets however is the low-cost 7 and 8 inch tablets like the Nexus 7 and iPad Mini. The only real threat to the growth of tablets is larger phones. People may not want a 7 or 8 inch tablet if they already have a 5.8 inch phone.

But what about you? If you had the money for either a smartphone, tablet, or new computer, what would you buy? Let me know in the comments!
