Amazon has just announced its third generation of Kindle Fires with a new “HDX” branding. Starting with the new devices, the Kindle Fire HDX comes in a familiar 7-inch and 8.9-inch varieties, both with upgraded specs all around. The previous model has also been updated with an incredibly low price.
Both HDX models have Snapdragon 800 processors clocked at 2.2 GHz. They also have 2GB of RAM with displays beating out everything else out there. The 7-in model has a ppi of 323. The 8.9-in model has a ppi of 339. The 8-in tablet also includes an 8mp rear camera.
On the software end these new Kindles run Fire OS 3.0 (based on Android 4.2.2) which brings new features to the OS. Amazon also released a new feature called “Mayday” that gives you year-round, 24-7 tech support free of charge.
Prices start at $229 for the 7-in model and $379 for the 8.9-in. Both tablets have optional AT&T and Verzion 4G LTE connection options.
On top of all that, Amazon also released a revised version of last year’s Kindle Fire HD which has the same specifications as last year’s model in a new design starting at an astounding $139 for the 8GB model. That makes it one of the best deals for a tablet right now.
