Manufacturing of the original Wii console is shutting down. The seven-year old console’s production is scheduled to end soon. The original statement only referred to this in Japan, so it is unknown if this will affect world-wide production. There is also no set date when this will happen. This doesn’t come as a surprise though since Nintendo’s Wii U has had the ability to play Wii games since Day 1, and a recent update now allows you to play these games on the Wii U’s GamePad screen.
