While Samsung’s poor first attempt at a smartwatch has been a mixed failure (or success depending on who you ask), Qualcomm is getting ready to take a shot with their Toq (pronounced “talk”) smartwatch. One of the biggest shortcomings of the Galaxy Gear that prevents it from going more mainstream is the hefty price point of $299. It looks like Qualcomm decided to ignore that by pricing their smartwatch at $349. The company will start selling the watch on December 2nd in the U.S.

Fortunately for them this watch isn’t really meant for the mass-market and is instead to showcase their new technologies. One of these is their Mirasol screen which uses very little power comparable to an e-ink display, but with color. The other is their WiPower wireless charging technology. This type of wireless charging allows for more room between the charging pad and the device.

Qualcomm has stated that less than 100,000 Toq smartwatches will be produced so if you do plan on getting on you may want to pick it up soon before it sells out. The Toq smartwatch is compatible with Android smartphones running Android 4.0.3 and above with a recommended 4.3 for less battery consumption.

What do you think of Qualcomm’s smartwatch, or are you waiting for something better? Let us know in the comments!
