Steam, the gaming platform from Valve, has superseded Xbox Live’s number of active users by 17 million.

Steam’s initial release was back in September of 2003 for Windows, 2010 for OS X, and earlier this year for Linux. Since then, they have grown to a whopping 65 million active users (that’s the same as the population of France) – and expect that to grow further with the announcement of Steam OS and the Steam Machines back in September.

Sony’s PlayStation Network does have 110 million members, so Steam still has a little way to go before it rules the gaming nation!
