You might be wondering what that means. Basically Samsung wants to let you control your phone not only from the front, but from the back. As you can see in the picture above, this new phone would have a single display on the front but it would have a slight degree of transparency. This means you would be able to control your phone without covering any of the display. This might sound awkward, but it could actually be beneficial. For instance, you could tap the back to open a folder or drag icons around the screen without covering them. This would also be very useful when playing games. Think of how many times you’ve covered over part of your game with your fingers. A rear tap might also reveal hidden text and options. Other uses might include unlocking your phone, or controlling playback. This is the first time we’ve ever seen this idea for a smartphone, so it’s quite suprising. This feature could be implemented into the next year’s lineup of Galaxy phones as these patents were made this past summer, but I wouldn’t count on it.
