It feels like everywhere you go, there seems to be at least one person with a cracked screen on their phone. But what is anyone doing to stop that? Well sources say that last year there was talk about Apple wanting to use sapphire glass as screen protection but they ended up turning down the idea.

Apparently, this year, Apple started making manufacturing investments to a sapphire glass facility. A report confirming this from Taiwan says that Apple has produced 100 sapphire screened phones for testing on this glass. According to PocketNow, Apple has been looking into the requirements to start mass producing this.

We know that this would probably be a well encouraged investment for Apple’s sake. iPhones are already expensive without this addition. We don’t know if this would drive up the price for iPhones or not. We also don’t know if this could affect screen sizes and their iPhone 6 size decision. We do know that Apple isn’t the first company to look into screen protection and crack resistance. With that in mind, we are all excited to see what’s in store from Apple.
