As has become tradition for Samsung, the newest phone in the Galaxy line will be unveiled at an “Unpacked” event. This time Samsung will almost definitely unveil the Samsung Galaxy S5 and possibly the Galaxy Gear 2. The event is being held in Barcelona at 8:00 pm CET (2 PM EST) along with a simultaneous event in New York City, hopefully this time without the terrible, nightmarish Broadway theme.
While Samsung could announce anything at this event, it’s almost guaranteed that they will release the Galaxy S5. They are also expected to release the Galaxy Gear 2. Strangely though, the event takes place on the first day of the Mobile World Congress. Samsung generally has their event before or after MWC to keep the eyes on them.
Currently rumors point to the device packing a Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16MP camera, and 5.25 inch, 2K display. Software wise the device will undoubtedly run Android 4.4 KitKat, but it’s unknown what TouchWiz will look like on the device. Google has pressured the company to tone down their skin on Android, but that might not take effect for a while, possibly not until the Galaxy Note 4.
