First introduced in Android 4.4 KitKat, ART (Android Runtime) brought a new runtime to Android even though it was technically still in testing. Since it’s start Android has used the Dalvik runtime, so this change was unexpected. So far however, only a small handful of devices have supported it. Namely the Nexus 5, 2013 Nexus 7, Moto X and a few others have supported it.
A recent leak shows that Samsung is including the functionality in the all new Galaxy S5 even though they don’t include it in their current Samsung devices with KitKat on board. It’s not known why Samsung decided to keep ART in the S5, but nonetheless it’s nice to see that they did.
If you don’t know how to access ART, you can check out our tutorial here. ART is soon expected to be the default runtime in Android and developers are working hard to optimize their apps for it.
