Chromecast Proves Itself A Success In Europe – Sells One Unit Every 4.5 Seconds On Launch Day
In the U.S. the Chromecast has become a popular product because of it’s shockingly low cost. At $35 it lives up to it’s claim of being the least expensive and easiest way to stream online content to your TV. While it’s been available in the U.S. since launch, the UK and other countries overseas weren’t as lucky. Not too long ago however, Google opened the floodgates for the expansion of the Chromecast opening it up to several new countries.
In the U.K. we saw extrodinary success with some retailers going out of stock within only a few hours. Dixon Retail, owner of the U.K. electronics chain Currys, reported that their stores sold one Chromecast device every 4.5 seconds on launch day. The company compared the launch to that of the original iPad, it’s most successful product launch ever. The device is also still at the top of Amazon.co.uk’s best seller list in Computers & Accessories.
Google still hasn’t told us exactly how many Chromecasts have been shipped or sold, but they did tell us that the number is in the millions in the just the U.S. alone. Are you excited to finally have a Chromecast if you’ve gotten one recently? If you haven’t gotten one, are you going to soon? Let us know in the comments!
