Microsoft has been running with the idea of the Xbox ecosystem for some time. Now, it looks like the company is moving one step closer to this ideal. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced earlier this week that Phil Spencer will take over as the head of all things Xbox, including Xbox Live, Xbox Music, and Xbox Video.
In a statement made by Nadella, Microsoft is looking to focus its “software, gaming, and content assets across the Xbox team under a single leader”, and Phil Spencer seems to be the right man for the job. In a blog post on Xbox Wire, Spencer talks about his focus for the future of Xbox;
“This past year has been a growth experience both for me and for the entire Xbox team. We’ve taken feedback, made our products better and renewed our focus on what is most important, our customer. Our mission is to build a world-class team, work hard to meet the high expectations of a passionate fan base, create the best games and entertainment and drive technical innovation. As we continue forward, this renewed focus and mission will be a foundational part of how I lead the Xbox program.”
Spencer’s new position with fill the gap left by Marc Whitten, former Xbox Chief Product Officer. With his experience at Microsoft Game Studios, Phil Spencer will likely make a great fit. After all, his passion for leading game development will translate well into leading the entirety of the Xbox division.
