LG G3 – What We Know So Far – Specs, Release Date, Design
LG’s latest flagship is right around the corner while leaks and rumors are in full swing. So let’s take a look at what we know so far.
LG’s flagship is expected to host the latest and best specifications to beat out the competition. The Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 both have Snapdragon 801 processors with 2GB of RAM and 1080p screens. The G3 is expected to try and top these two phones spec for spec.
- 5.5″ Inch QHD (2K) Display
- 16/32 GB Storage
- 2/3 GB RAM
- 13MP OIS+ Camera
- 3,000 mAh Removable Battery
- 1 Watt Speaker
- Snapdragon 801 Processor
Last year when LG introduced the G2, they introduced the idea of rear facing buttons to the world. These buttons were the first we had ever seen of rear mounted buttons. Up until that point all OEMs had been placing their buttons around the sides of the phone. It definitely looks like these buttons will be returning along with on-screen navigation buttons. All of this helps LG win their battle against bezels with practically non-existent bezels on the side. On the G2 the 5.2″ inch display took up over 72% of the phone’s front side, and it’s only going to get better with the G3.
Update – 5/6/14
The glossy plastic is gone! According to a new leak from Evleaks, LG is using a new design on the back of the phone to stop the war on fingerprints.
LG has a heavy skin over Android like Samsung does, and it definitely has plenty of room for improvement. According to leaked screenshots, the G3 will have a cleaned up software experience that is more minimalistic and flat. While the skin is still very heavy on top of Android 4.4, it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
This year it seems that LG will be launching a variant of the G3 at launch in the form of the LG G3 Mini. This device is rumored to pack a 4.7″ inch, 720p display according to leaks earlier this year.
LG brings a feature packed experience to their devices and the G3 will be no different. On the software side features will be expected to return such as QSlide apps, QuickRemote, and more. A new feature seen briefly is some sort of new digital assistant. We don’t know much about it at this time however.
On the hardware, features are expected to include the 13MP OIS+ camera and the 2K display, in a waterproof and dustproof package. There isn’t much behind the rumor of the phone being both water and dust proof, but the device is expected to bring an IP67 rating to compete with the Galaxy S5 which is water resistant and dustproof.
LG has an event scheduled for May 27th which is assumed to be the launch event for the G3. If that is true the phone will most likely land
