Coming straight out of left field, Microsoft has just announced a $399 Xbox One without the Kinect. This matches the PlayStation 4’s price and closes that gap. Despite the fact that Microsoft promised developers that every Xbox One would ship with a Kinect, Microsoft is listening to the customer who have asked for a version without the add-on.

Microsoft’s head of Xbox Phil Spencer stated that “”We’ve also heard from people they just like to play games with a controller in their hands” which is what led to the release of this console. At $399 this console directly competes with the PS4 even though it lacks the Kinect sensor. A standalone sensor will be sold “later this fall” and the standard Xbox One with the Kinect sensor included will still be sold for $499.
