While most of us are fans of the metal construction found in devices like the iPhone 5S and the HTC One M8, not everyone likes it. HTC realizes that and now they have an option for those who want the high-end, flagship phones, but want it in plastic (but still not Samsung) for just a little less.
HTC’s latest announcement is the One E8. The device packs the same impressive specs from the HTC One M8 but in a polycarbonate body with a new (and hopefully improved) camera.
- 5″ Inch Super LCD3 1080p Display
- Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 Processor – 2.3 GHz
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB Storage (microSD up to 128GB)
- 13MP Rear Camera
- 5MP Wide-Angle Front Camera
- 2,600 mAh Battery
- Android 4.4.2
- Sense 6.0
- 4G LTE
As you can see the specs on the HTC One E8 are nearly identical to the M8 except for the change of the camera. Depending on how you feel about ultrapixels, this is a welcome change. HTC says that this device will be priced “very competitively” which means that it could be a great “budget” option for those who can’t quite afford an M8 but still want the high-end specs and experience. The E8 also comes in a variety of colors that include white, red, dark gray, and according to a recent leak, blue. The E8’s design is nearly identical to the M8 as well with a few slight changes. However the Boomsound speakers do return along with the on-screen navigation keys.
The HTC One E8 will go on sale around the world in the coming months starting with China at the end of June. HTC is hoping that the smaller price tag will bring great success to the device. Considering the costs that can be cut by replacing metal with plastic and a conventional camera vs ultrapixels, HTC may have a huge hit on their hands.
