Just before the official announcement of iOS, some reports came out showing that the new update would contain the ability to use multiple apps on screen at one time on the iPad. This functionality has been seen before on tablets like Windows RT tablets and even some Samsung Android tablets. Credible leaks had made it seem like the feature would in fact be included in the iOS 8 update. However Apple did not make any mention of the feature at WWDC 2014. That doesn’t mean it’s not coming though.
According to Steven Troughton-Smith, iOS 8’s version of Springboard holds the code necessary to support apps running at 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 sizes. Springboard is what Apple uses to control your homescreen as well as launching apps. Obviously the feature is not yet ready for even beta releases so we expect to hear more down the road.
