Amazon Smartphone Rumor Roundup – To Be Exclusive To A Single Carrier?

Tomorrow Amazon is expected to announced their first ever smartphone which we’ve heard rumors of for a very long time. While it won’t be the company’s first move in the mobile device world, it will be their first smartphone, and it’s success will rely on a few different factors. Price, specs, app support, features, and availability.

As for specs and price, there isn’t too much to go on as Amazon has yet to announce the device. However with app support, the device is expected to house the Amazon appstore rather than Google Play. While it might not be our favorite choice, Amazon has recently announced that the store houses 240,000 apps. Features will likely come from Amazon’s Fire OS skin over Android. Underneath the very heavy skin will likely be Android 4.3 or 4.4. Along with that is a 3D feature that makes the phone “move with you” as teased in the video seen below.

However the phone’s success will still rely on one more thing, carrier support, specifically in the U.S. The four major carriers in the States will play a big role in getting this phone to the customer. However according to the Wall Street Journal, this device will be exclusive to AT&T’s network, at least in the States.

Will you be getting the Amazon smartphone when it releases? Would you check it out at least? Let us know in the comments.
