Earlier this morning Facebook released it’s Snapchat competitor, Slingshot. Slingshot is just like Snapchat with some small differences, perhaps the biggest difference is the fact that when you “sling” a photo or video to someone they have to “sling” a photo or video back to you before they can view yours. Once you receive a photo or video you can simply swipe it away or react. Slingshot even lets you add clever captions and drawings to your creations.
The next couple of weeks are going to be very stressful ones for Snapchat as their fanbase’s loyalty is tested. The reason Snapchat has to be so fearful of Slingshot is due to the social media giant behind it, Facebook. Nowadays anybody who has a device that can connect to the internet has a Facebook profile and when they hear about Slingshot being related to Facebook they will want to try it. That’s when it gets bad for Snapchat, the Slingshot app looks pretty darn good compared to Snapchat, not to mention it’s much more simple and easy to learn.
So lets see here, a Facebook-backed, simple, clean, easy-to-use photo and video sharing app, Snapchat is going to have it’s work cut out for them. Like we said above, and i’ll say it again, Snapchat is going to have a hard and stressful next couple of weeks as they fight not to lose a portion of users to the new kid on the block, Slingshot.
