Android L brought plenty of new changes that we thoroughly enjoyed, but one that is almost universally hated is the new navigation button icons. Seemingly ripped off of the PlayStation controller, these buttons are a departure from anything we’ve previously seen from the company. However a short video on Google’s design website showcases another design that’s a huge improvement.

Instead of being a huge departure, these new buttons are much closer to what we’ve seen since Android 4.0, but with Android L’s new design language in mind. It’s very possible that we could see this design or the current “PlayStation” design in Android L as time goes on. At the very least it’s good to see that Google has other designs in mind.
