We’ve had LG’s next wearable teased a couple of times already, and now the company is making things official by fully outing the LG G Watch R. LG has beaten Motorola to the bunch by announced their round Android Wear wearable today, even though the announcement isn’t fully done.
Inside, this is just the original G Watch. As a reminder, that’s a Snapdragon 400 CPU, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and an IP67 rating on the outside. The battery capacity has been slightly increased to 410 mAh as well. The real story here though is the design. Instead of the square design of the first G Watch, the G Watch R brings a round display that’s a perfect circle. At 1.3″ inches the screen is slightly smaller than the Moto 360, but the bezels make them match up fairly closely. The display is a P-OLED display, “P” for plastic and it’s unknown how that will affect battery life. Hopefully it’s for the better. LG also added a heart rate monitor to this watch.
It should be noted that this watch is not a G Watch 2, but a premium option for those looking for that. These aren’t all the details though. LG will reveal the rest of the details, hopefully including price, at IFA next week in Berlin. Definitely keep an eye out for that.
