Sony Introduces New Z3 Family Along With New Wearables

Almost directly after Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 event closed out, Sony stepped in with their own announcements. Rumors pointed to a new flagship, new compact, a new tablet, and two new wearables, and that’s exactly what we got. Sony today announced the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Smartwatch 3, and Smartband Talk. So instead of going through 25 posts about these products, let’s find out every you need to know about all of them right here.

Sony Xperia Z3 – The New Flagship

Sony revealed the Xperia Z2 only a few months ago, but the buyer’s remorse sets in today with the Xperia Z3 becoming official. The Z3 isn’t really too much of a departure from what the Z2 was, just with a couple refinements. The phone has a 5.2″ inch display 20.7″ MP camera, Snapdragon 801, and 3GB of RAM. Sound familiar? Yeah, that’s exactly what we saw in the Z2. The differences here are mostly in the software and in the waterproof design. This phone has the highest waterproofing of any high end phone with an IP58 rating. In the software, Sony has been able to refine things so that this phone gets up to two days of use on a single charge, and added a new gaming feature that I’m sure many will enjoy, remote play with the PS4. Sony’s latest devices will be able to use a DualShock 4 controller to play their favorite PS4 games similar to how the PS Vita can. The full specs of the Z3 are at the bottom of the page.

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact – Small Body, High Performance

The Xperia Z3 Compact is the next phone at bat. This one is a smaller version of the flagship with the same high end specifications, mostly. It features a much smaller 4.6″ inch display with a 720p resolution. This is a great device for those in want of a small phone, but don’t want to sacrifice specs. The Xperia Z2 Compact went at the same goal, and Sony continues to be the only OEM at the moment who sees that smaller doesn’t have to mean worse. The full specs on the Z3 Compact are at the bottom of the page.

Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact – Have We Used “Xperia Z3” Enough Yet?

This product isn’t actually a successor to anything. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is the first 8″ inch tablet Sony has done and it’s a pretty impressive one. the device is obviously much smaller that the Z2 Tablet which comes in at just over 10 inches. The specs haven’t taken a hit either. Inside is a Snapdragon 801 with 3GB of RAM under a 1080p display. It’s of course water resistant in traditional Sony fashion. The full specs for this device are also at the bottom of the page.

Sony Smartwatch 3 – “No We’re Not Doing Android Wear” – Oh I Lied

Android Wear has been a hit in the wearable community, but from it’s launch Sony said that they would stick to their guns and stay with their own smartwatch OS. Then we got to number 3. The Sony Smartwatch 3 is the company’s latest wearable and runs Android Wear. The design is somewhat different from that of the Smartwatch 2, and while it may look cheap, it packs some awesome new features we haven’t seen yet in Android Wear. That includes an IP68 water resistant rating and NFC. The battery is also larger which might give us up to two days of use and up to four days on standby. The price is rumored to be under $200, so this could be an amazing offering. The full specs are at the bottom of the page.

Sony SmartBand Talk

Finally we’re at the end. The last product here is the Sony SmartBand Talk. This is another wearable, but this one isn’t running Android Wear. The SmartBand Talk has a 1.4″ inch display the is taller than it is wide, similar to the Gear Fit. It has an E-Ink display and actually allows users to handle phones calls on a built in speaker and mic. Bet you can’t guess where the specs are.
