Motorola’s new Moto X is easily one of the most impressive devices we’ve seen this month (yes there are that many this month), even though it might not look that way at first. To encourage more customers to pick up the device, Motorola is offering up to $300 for your old phone, but I wouldn’t advise going for it.

This trade in allows you to submit your device in exchange for a prepaid Visa credit card from Motorola for a specific amount. Depending on the age and condition of your phone, you can get up to $300 back. Sounds pretty good right? Haha, nope. This “deal” really isn’t something I’d advise anyone to do. Below are the trade in values of some phones that some users may want to trade in for the new Moto X.

  • Moto X (Gen 1) AT&T 32GB – $60
  • iPhone 5 (US Carrier) 16GB – $170
  • LG G2 (Verizon) – $100
  • Nexus 5 – $85
  • Nexus 4 – $60
  • Galaxy Nexus (GSM) – $20
  • Galaxy S4 – $120

These are of course only quotes, but based on that, this deal isn’t really all that great. Most of these phones could be sold through eBay or Swappa for at least twice as much money, if not more. The only device that get the $300 value from what I can see is the Samsung Galaxy S5. Even other current flagships like the HTC One M8 and iPhone 5S don’t reach the same quote. Hopefully, those numbers speak for themselves.
