Chromecast App For Android & iOS Updated With Backdrop Support

A new Chromecast update has just hit both Android and iOS bringing a few new features in tow. The big story is Backdrop. Backdrop gives Chromecast owners the option to display customized art as well as Google+ albums on the Chromecast when it’s on standby. Imagery you can see is listed below.

  • Google+ albums
  • Google Cultural Institute artwork from museums and galleries around the world
  • New/Lifestyle images from the New York Times, The Guardian, and more. (US only)
  • Satellite imagery
  • Google+ community photos

You also now have the ability to identify what you see on screen on your phone through a Google Now command. Simply ask “OK Google, What’s on my Chromecast?” and your phone/tablet will display the information. To access this new functionality you’ll need to update to the latest version of the app. The update is rolling out now on Google Play and in the App Store for iOS users. If you’re on Android you can download the APK now.
