Have you ever felt like your phone is no different from everyone elses? It’s an understandable dilemma, and there are ways to fix it. The obvious way is with a case, but even that becomes repetitive after a while. So what can you do to not only make your device stand out from the crowd, but also feel different? A company based in Portland, Oregon called Toast aims to answer that question.
Toast produces 100% real-wood cases for a variety of devices including phones, laptops, tablets, and even smartwatches. Over the past week I’ve been using one of their latest covers on my LG G3. So today I’ll be giving you my thoughts on this product and whether or not you should buy it.
First, let’s talk about the installation. This cover is made up of 5 parts, 6 if you opt for the front cover. One piece is large and covers the majority of the device. However those other four pieces are incredibly small which means they are a pain to apply. Installation took me about 10 minutes but it was pretty difficult to get every piece on just right. It didn’t help that I had studio lights bearing down on me the whole time (I don’t recommend it). You do need to ensure your phone is clean before applying the skin and you also need to make sure that you have a clean environment to work in. My area of choice is my desk or my kitchen counter. Once you have the cover on, it truly is a thing of beauty.
Since the cover is laser cut to fit the device nearly perfect, the device still feels great in the hand, with lots of added grip. It also protects the back cover of the phone from scratching. What’s good about this cover? It looks great and feels great. The all-natural wood is a thing of beauty on the already pretty beautiful LG G3. What is bad? This cover attracts dust like you would not believe. Since an adhesive is used to attach the cover to the device, of course it’s going to pick up a little bit of dust, but I got a lot more than expected. Just slipping the device into my pocket I picked up lots of dust. Even just on a table the phone picked up any stray dust as well.
So, should you buy it? I’d say yes. For $29 it’s not too unreasonable a deal and it just looks absolutely amazing. The front cover is an additional $10, but I’ll leave that one up to you to decide if it’s worth it. Styles for this cover include Bamboo, Ebony, Ash, and the one I used, Walnut.
