Last Week In Tech – Week Of October 6th

From Nexus 9 leaks to Apple Events to a super powered DROID and more, let’s get into what happened in the last week in tech.

News Roundup

Just like last week let’s start off with leaks regarding the next Nexus tablet. First we caught our first leaked images of the new tablet confirming that it will be built by HTC and unfortunately that it won’t be made of aluminum. A bit later on in the week we caught a glimpse of the price for this device and it seems that it’ll be sold for $399 through Google Play and a few other outlets. An October 15th announcement is expected and should be available to buy on November 3rd.

In smartwatch news, LG, Sony, and ASUS have made their new Android Wear devices available for pre-order in the UK. The LG G Watch R, Sony Smartwatch 3, and ASUS ZenWatch come in priced between £159.99 and £219.99 respectively.

Apple also officially announced an event for October 16th to where they are expected to release new iPads, multiple Macs, iOS 8.1, OS X Yosemite, and much more. They will be livestreaming the event, but let’s just hope it’s in English this time.

Google also released a new Chrome app for their Hangouts messaging app. To be honest, it’s pretty awesome. Very different, but it holds some nice hints of material design and works very well. For now the app is only fully compatible with Chrome OS and Windows.

We also caught a new leak of the DROID Turbo. This phone looks like one of the best Verizon and Motorola will have to offer this year, or that anyone has to offer. With a 5.2″ inch QHD display, Snapdragon 805, 3,900 mAh battery, and a 21MP camera. It’s definitely going to be a pretty incredible device.

Speaking of Verizon, they’ve partnered with Sony to bring the Xperia Z3 to their network here in the US. The device is a bit of a combination of the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z3 and comes under the name Xpera Z3V. It will be available in about two weeks for $199 on a two-year contract.

In HTC news, we have a look at two new products from the company, the Desire Eye and the HTC Re Camera. The Desire Eye is a flagship hiding under the Desire line and is a selfie-centric phone. It has a 13MP camera and dual-tone flash both on the front and the back of the device. It also comes with flagship specs and a water resistant design. The HTC Re is a GoPro type of device which brings a 16MP camera and a very interesting design. It is available for pre-order soon.
