The ASUS Padfone lineup has long been one of the most interesting devices available and after a long wait, the device finally made it’s way to the States earlier this year with AT&T. Now though AT&T and ASUS have teamed up yet again to bring the Padfone’s little brother, the Padfone Mini to the States.
The Padfone Mini X is a 4.5″ inch display smartphone which can be docked inside a 7 inch tablet body. The phone portion is a bit on the low end with only an 854×480 screen, a dual-core Intel processor at 1.6GHz and only a single GB of RAM. A 5MP camera is found around back as well. The tablet portion on the other hand has a 1280×800 resolution which is a much needed improvement. The pair runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
If you’re unfamilar with the Padfone, the concept is actually quite brilliant. The 4.5 inch phone is used just as a standard phone but it can be docked into the 7 inch tablet. The tablet has no processor or rear camera but instead uses the phone to get things done.
This duo can be had for a mere $199 on AT&T’s prepaid network. If you ask me that’s a pretty sweet deal considering your technically get a phone and a tablet for the price of less than one. The device goes on sale October 24th.
