While making the annnouncement of their OPPO N3, the company had a surprise for us, the OPPO R5. This new device is notable for one reason in particular, it’s the thinnest smartphone in the world. Constructed with a metallic alloy this device comes in at 148.9 x 74.5 x 4.85mm. That last measurement is the important one. Just 4.85mm thick. That’s over a mm thinner than the already incredibly thin iPhone 6. That’s a pretty impressive feat if you ask me.
Aside from that impressive measurement, the R5 has some other interesting specs. Inside is a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Up top is a 5.2 inch full HD (1080p) display. For taking pictures we have a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Powering it all is a 2,000 mAh battery. While it’s impressive that OPPO was able cram a battery that size into a chassis this small, 2,000 mAh isn’t much by today’s standards. To help you get through the day, this phone comes with fast charging to get a charge when you need it quickly.
Unfortunately a phone this thin means that OPPO had to change things a bit. As mentioned, this included the smaller battery. Aside from that however a microSD card slot is not included, a down side for many users. The biggest trade-off this phone has however is the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead you have two options for listening to music. Bluetooth headphones or the included adapter. That adapter turns the microUSB port into a headphone jack.
This phone will retail for $499 but a release date has not been announced yet.
