Back in February of this year Lenovo announced that it would be acquiring Motorola for some 2.91 billion dollars. Since then, though, we haven’t heard much more news surrounding that acquisition; until today. Yes, today the two companies have finally made it official; Motorola is now part of Lenovo!
According to a blog post set up by Lenovo, this makes the company the world’s 3rd largest Smartphone maker. Yang Yuanqing, CEO of Lenovo said, “By building a strong number 3 and a credible challenger to the top two in smartphones, we will give the market something it has needed-choice, competition, and a new spark of innovation”.
If you were worried that Motorola will stop providing updates or new releases of its prized Moto X or Moto 360; think again. Motorola will continue to operate as a subsidiary of Lenovo and will continue to uphold its brands. This is, no doubt, reassuring news to many Moto fans.
What is probably the best part from this acquisition is that it looks like both companies’ seem to be well on board with this change, which is always pleasing to see. Hopefully we will be seeing some great things come out from Lenovo and Motorola, but until then, make sure you stay tuned to iTechTriad for more updates on this, and more tech news.
