Over time it makes sense for OEMs to start adding more power to their devices to handle the ever more complicated tasks we tackle on our smartphones each and every day. At this point your typical flagship smartphone has either a Snapdragon 801 or Snapdragon 805 processor paired with either 2 or 3GB of RAM. Any combination of those works perfectly fine, but of course we just have to have a spec war, and that’s what Samsung (who would have guessed it) is doing with their latest endeavor which is the mass-production of chips to give smartphones 4GB of RAM.
The basis of these chips is only an 8 gigabit (1GB) component but it allows multiple dies to be placed with one another which will allow OEMs to easily hit the 4GB target. Samsung states that they are aiming to get this new tech into the hands of OEMs in early 2015.
