Spotify Won’t Be Bringing Google Cast Support Anytime Soon – To Focus On Spotify Connect Instead
Spotify is a popular music streaming service that I use personally everyday. For me there just one thing missing, Chromecast support. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished support was there, but quite simply it’s not. Now the company have confirmed that they have no plans to bring support for Google Cast.
Several manufacturers had mentioned Spotify’s support of Google Cast with their new Google Cast wireless speakers, but Spotify themselves said that they would not be using Google Cast. Instead they are focusing their attention on their own built in Spotify Connect service which allows music to be controlled and played over different devices. They intend to work with manufacturers this year to bring more devices that are Spotify Connect ready.
A spokesman for Spotify said, “We launched Spotify Connect because we believe that by owning the technology end-to-end, we can deliver the best connected home music experience. Connect’s advantages are already evident, with hundreds of devices from the world’s leading brands integrated. As we already have an experience that is optimised for ease-of-use and audio quality, we have no news to share on other integrations or partnerships at this time. We will continue to develop Connect, with new features, partners and devices arriving in 2015.”
