Parrot Unveils Android Auto/Apple CarPlay Dash Unit
If you’re like me, then you are probably pretty excited for some of the awesome “Smart Car” features both Apple and Google are bringing to the table. As soon as I saw Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto in action a few months back I was wishing that I could be in the market for a new car in 2015 so I’d be able to purchase a vehicle with these awesome new systems. But fortunately for me, and many of you who wish to turn their cars into the ultimate KIT from Knight Rider, Parrot has arrived on the scene with the perfect solution, the Parrot RNB6.
This week at CES Parrot unveiled their latest In Dash “Infotainment Navigation System” which is currently code named the Parrot RNB6. The RNB6 is a 2 DIN Android powered system with a 7” touch screen which is said to be able to be installed in 90% of vehicles with minimal effort. It is running Android Lollipop 5.0 but is capable of running both Apple’s Car Play and Google’s Android Auto systems by simply plugging in your respective phone of choice. But even when not utilizing your smartphone you can still use it in stand alone mode in order to access integrated navigation system and driving assistance. Those driving assistance features are possible because of the included full HD HDR DashCam that will be utilized to provide Drive Assist which will allow you to automatically record audio and video of the road ahead, help with lane assist while driving, and even can be utilized for park assist. The RNB6 does also come with an OBD2 port which is used in order to provide an exceptional in vehicle network. On board diagnostics such as vehicle health maintenance, steering wheel controls, parking sensors, air conditioner are all accessible via the RNB6. Although there is no announced price point yet the Parrot RNB6 is anticipated to launch sometime in 2015 and definitely looks like it can be the solution to our smart car needs without the price of a brand new car.
