A new report published by appfigures.com shows that the Google Play Store has passed the Apple App Store in the number of applications available. For the end of 2014, Google had 1.43 million apps offered in their store while Apple’s tally stood at 1.21 million apps.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise as the Android platform has seen explosive growth in the past few years. Sheer numbers is what’s making the difference here. Google has dozens of OEMs using the Play Store and that means a developer’s app will be put in front of many more users than it will on iOS. Apple certainly has some work to do to narrow the gap, but odds are, the Play Store will be on top for quite a while.
