Qualcomm Has Essentially Just Confirmed The Galaxy S6 Will Not Use The Snapdragon 810

Qualcomm, the biggest chipmaker name out there for mobile devices, revealed a significant piece of information in their most recent financial report. More specifically, they have said that one of the big smartphone manufacturers will not be using the Snapdragon 810 processor in their new smartphone this year like they typically do.

Diving into Qualcomms latest financial report you will see that it says the companies Snapdragon 810 “will not be in the upcoming design cycle of a large customers flagship device.” We can pretty much tell you that this upcoming device Qualcomm is alluding to is the Samsung Galaxy S6 due to the fact that Samsung claimed they were not going to be using the Snapdragon 810 in their next Galaxy S device. The reasoning behind not using it is because of “thermal issues” according to Samsung, but LG begs to differ, publicly saying that they are using the Snapdragon 810 in the G Flex 2 and it has no issues of the sort.

Samsung not incorporating the Snapdragon 810 in their upcoming Galaxy S6 device has Qualcomm a little worried, as they should be. Financially speaking, this could really have an effect on Qualcomm’s profits this year. That’s millions of chips that Qualcomm is now not going to sell not being included in the Galaxy S6 and Qualcomm has definitely taken notice of this in their financial report. The company has actually cut revenue expectations for Q3 and Q4 of this year due to this.

In place of the Snapdragon 810 Samsung will almost certainly be using their own Exynos processors that they typically use in their devices overseas. It will be interesting to see how the use of an Exynos processor effects the Galaxy S6 in the US when it is released.
