Qualcomm’s latest chip, the Snapdragon 810 has been said numerous times to have overheating issues. However, those may have been greatly exaggerated. In recent tests, the 810 was found to run much cooler than one of Qualcomm’s older chips, the Snapdragon 801.
Two devices both running on the Snapdragon 801 or the 810 were tested playing Asphalt 8 over about 20-30 minutes. The tempeture of the 801 hit the high end after about 20 minutes while the 810 couldn’t reach that tempeture after 30 minutes of the same activity.
The differences were even more obvious when the handsets were capturing video. The 810 stayed nearly 10 degrees cooler than the 801 during this test.
Hopefully this will all prove true in real world testing as the HTC One M9, LG G4, and multiple other phones are expected to carry this chipset in 2015.
