With lots of competition joining the market, Pebble has been in a tough spot. Newer watches bring better designs, more premium builds, and color displays, but the Pebble has remained simply the Pebble. This morning the company has officially announced their next wearable, the Pebble Time.
This new watch brings a color e-paper display, a thinner design (compared to the original Pebble), a built-in microphone, a brand new operating system based on a timeline, and much more. The device will retail at $199 soon, but to kick things off (all puns intended), Pebble has started a KickStarter campaign. The device will be available to early buyers starting at $159. The campaign reached the halfway point on it’s goal in under 9 minutes and was funded completely in under 30 minutes.
The Pebble Time is said to bring 7 days of battery similar to the original. That’s a pretty big difference to other smartwatches with color displays. The new watch will also be compatible with current Pebble apps and watchfaces.
The Pebble Time is expected to ship to backers in May 2015 in three colors, red, white, and black. What do you think of the new watch? Will you get one? Let us know in the comments!
