Google Play Services Version 7.0 Is Now Rolling Out To Devices

There has been quite a bit of news lately pertaining to an update to Google Play Services but all of this was about what was supposedly going to be included in the update as opposed to the update actually rolling out. Today though, the update is actually beginning to hit a significant portion of peoples devices.

Once you receive this update on your device you probably won’t notice much but there are definitely some additions in this update to version 7.0. The biggest of which is a new member of the Smart Lock group called Trusted Voice. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any way to actually enable this feature at the moment. Tapping the Trusted Voice option just takes users to the Google Search voice settings with no way to enable the feature. Despite this, we can make an educated guess as to what this feature will offer users. More than likely allowing users to unlock their device with a specific phrase said in their own voice, a pretty nifty feature that we look forward to trying out.

Other than the addition of Trusted Voice the update to Google Play Services brings quite a few new API’s. These new API’s do things such as give third-party developers access to the new Places which allows them to query Google for nearby businesses. There are many more API’s as well.

Like we mentioned above, the update to Google Play Services is rolling out now and has already hit a good portion of devices. It will be rolling out to all users over the next couple of days so you may have to be a little patient if you haven’t received the update yet.
