Tackform Freedom Handle Bar Bike Mount Review

As with driving a car, safety is paramount when riding a bike. We all love to track our progress, listen to music, and heavens forbid we miss a call or email while out cycling.  Tackform has created a well designed, expertly manufactured handlebar mount that will fit most phones, and kepp a strong hold on them so they don’t meet the pavement – unless of course you do as well, and I can’t think of any handlebar mount that can save your device in that situation.

As it is winter here in the North East United States I was unable to get a full road test on this product, however what I was able to experience, I was impressed with. The impressive build quality of this product is consistent with all of the other products I have reviewed from Tackform.

Included in the package is the mount, which is springloaded to accomodate different size devices, and a strong silicone net to provide extra holding security. The silicone not is cleverly designed so as to not block your view of the screen.  Please note the mount will not accomodate tablets, only handheld devicese – not that I think anyone would actually want to use a tablet on their bike handlebar.

When using the mount, make sure you turn off screen lock (or at least use an app that keeps the screen on) as turning the screen on while riding is both difficult and dangerous.

The mounting process was extremely simple and straight forward. Just open the bar attachment, attach, and tighten the screw for a snug, slip free installation. The mount uses removable rubber strips of various sizes inside the opening to grip onto different handlebar sizes. This is in a similar fashion to most cyclocomputers you get at the local bike shop. What I liked most was that the munt has multiple swivel points allowing me to install on the stem instead of the bars. This placed the mount squarely in the middle of the aerobars, a nice convenience for those that do triathlons or time trials.

The only concerns I had when evaluating the Freedom Handle Bar Mount included use during inclement weather or really warm days when you will be sweating profusely.  The mount provides no moisture protection unless you have your device inside a weatherproof case.

Thanks Scott, Spot on with the moisture protection and duly noted. We’re definitely going to experiment with some solutions for that! All the best!
