Microsoft Is Working On A Windows 10 ROM For Android Phones

Windows Phone has been struggling for a long time to reach customers and it’s not been succeeding. However Microsoft has just announced something that might change that. The company is currently working on a ROM for Windows 10 that will be available for Android handsets. The company has already said that they have been working in collaboration with Xiaomi to bring the Windows 10 for phones Technical Preview to a select number of Mi4 owners.

As part of the Windows Insider Program, Microsoft will partner with Xiaomi to offer Windows 10 free downloads to a select group of Xiaomi Mi4 users. Xiaomi Mi4 users will get the ability to flash their phones with the new Windows 10 OS and provide feedback to Xiaomi and Microsoft on their experience. This partnership will allow Xiaomi and Microsoft to get direct user feedback and continue to improve the experience for China. Microsoft is thrilled to see Xiaomi embracing Windows 10 and offering this great value to their customers. We’re excited to see the feedback we receive from this audience.

Xiaomi is a leading phone manufacturer in China undergoing significant global expansion. We are excited to partner with them in China and jointly gather feedback from Chinese users on their experience with Windows 10 to jointly collaborate on product and services development for the platform.

Availability will be announced in the months to come.

Microsoft reportedly chose Xiaomi for this project due to their customers who provide a tremendous amount of feedback to Xiaomi during weekly software updates. For now, this is limited to just the Xiaomi Mi4, but according to TechCrunch, more users may soon be able to do this.

Similar to how an Android user can currently flash CyanogenMod or any other custom ROM on their device, they may be able to flash Windows 10. Just like with Android ROMs, this completely overrides the original software. It’s likely that if Microsoft did roll this out to more users, their hope would be that those users would keep Windows 10 on their devices.

What are your thoughts? Would you flash Windows 10 on your Android phone? Let us know in the comments below!

I had the HTC One M8 Windows phone and LOVED it! But, that particular phone dropped calls all over the place so I had T-Mobile give me the android version instead that supports wi-fi calling. I’ve been a fan of android for a long time, but Windows Phone on the Lumia 635, then the One M8 was just great! I really liked Cortana! Now I hear that Cortana may come to android and that is exciting, but I still wish I had the One M8 Windows phone version. My One M8 Android got Lollipop recently, and while I can’t say exactly why, I liked the phone better with Android 4.4.4 on it. So, being part of T-Mobile’s Jump program, when I can Jump, it might be to whatever Windows phone is available or it might be to an iPhone 6+ So far, I am not happy with Lollipop.

I would definitely get W10 on my android phone. HOWEVER, I would require it to be dual boot as so much of my life is tied to Google services.
