Earlier this year, Nintendo blew many away by announcing they’re already working on a new console to succeed the Wii U, but they have refused to say anything about it. In fact since Nintendo announced the console, we haven’t heard anything else about it. All we know is that we’re getting the Nintendo NX sometime in 2016, and that’s it. So why don’t we know anything else? The reason is actually pretty interesting.
As it turns out, Nintendo was simply announcing the console to remind everyone that they are still dedicated to their own hardware. Many have speculated that due to low sales on the Wii U the company would begin transitioning to a software only company. However that is simply not the case.
“The NX was announced as a new platform alongside the DeNA venture. The NX was announced then to indicate that we are not retreating from game platforms and will continue the hardware business. Normally, the announcement would’ve been made later. It was like revealing a magic trick ahead of time. New proposals require surprises to follow. Such information on the NX won’t be announced until 2016. No announcements today.”
So until the official announcement in 2016, we likely won’t be hearing much more about the Nintendo NX. As of now the one thing we do know is that previous rumors that it was going to run Android were false.
