Even been worried about all those germs on your smartphone display? Eh, probably not, but you should. There are a surprising amount of germs that can build up on your smartphone’s display and while you probably don’t need to worry about it too much, the germaphobe inside you right now is probably going to make you think twice next time you answer a phone call. Corning, the makers of Gorilla Glass, have been working on a method to combat this problem. At CES 2014 the company showed off a new type of Gorilla Glass that actually killed and prevented the build up of germs on a display. So far we haven’t seen this on a smartphone, but we’ll finally see that happen with ZTE’s new Axon phone.
The ZTE Axon will be the first smartphone in the world to use this new form of Gorilla Glass. To combat germs the glass has ionic silver built into the glass which prevents the build up of germs, algae, mold, mildew, fungi, and bacteria. This new glass probably isn’t going to be a make or break feature for smartphones, but it’s certainly a nice addition to the already impressive ZTE Axon.
