In the midst of the Stagefright patch update, Google has today announced a new update policy for Nexus devices and it’s pretty exciting. Starting now, Google will release monthly security patches for Nexus phones and tablets once per month to combat any security issues that may arise. The first of these updates is to fix the Stagefright issue. Security patches will be available for any Nexus device for three years from the day it enters the Google Store, or 18 months after leaving the store (whichever comes last).
Aside from those minor updates, Google is also committing to bring all major OTAs to all Nexus devices at least 2 years after their release. Previously Google supported Nexus devices for 18 months except in a few instances such as the 2012 Nexus 7. All of this is certainly very good news for any owners of these devices.
