Yesterday Google announced that they were committing to bring monthly OTAs to Nexus devices to patch security issues. It’s great to see the company doing that, but considering the number of customers it’ll actually effect, it’s not too big a deal. However Samsung is now following in their footsteps in announcing a new initiative to bring “fast-tracked” OTAs to a number of their devices to patch security bugs.
Samsung made it clear that these updates could roll out as much as once a month, but that is not guaranteed. This also applies to carrier variants of applicable devices. So far AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile have joined in on the initiative, however Verizon has yet to do the same. Samsung has not yet announced which Galaxy devices will be eligible for this program.Source: Samsung
