Do you have multiple A/V items you need to connect to your TV/Entertainment Center? My TV only has two HDMI ports and both ports are occupied. I give the TV a workout with the Chromecast and the Blu-ray player, but what if I had to add another device, such as a gaming system? I would have to unplug one device to add the new device. Enter the K300 3 port switch by Kinivo.
Let me point out that this is a 4K HDMI switch. I do not currently own anything with 4K, so I couldn’t test this out. You will also need an HDMI to HDMI cable, because it doesn’t come with one.
The K300 is very easy to set up and I must admit that I didn’t read the instructions that came with it. I just plugged the K300 into a nearby power strip, one end of the HDMI cable into the “HDMI OUT” on the K300, and the other end of the HDMI cable into a free port on the TV. Then I plugged the Chromecast and the BD player into available ports on the K300. If I had a game system, I could plug it into the third port on the K300 or the other port on my TV.
The K300 does have a “STAND-BY” and “POWER ON” mode. In “STAND-BY” mode, the device will not auto-wake the TV and switch to the right device automatically. It only seems to do this when powered on. So, unless you know that you are not going to be using it for an extended period of time, I would keep it powered on.
There is a remote that comes with the K300, so you can select your device directly or there is a “switch” button on the K300 that will cycle through the connected devices each time it is pressed.
The K300 is currently listed on Amazon for $34.99. That means you’ll have to also order an HDMI cable to get your free shipping for an order over $35 (if you don’t have Prime).
