We’ve been hearing for a bit now that the Moto X Play would in fact be launching in the US afterall, but under a new name. The phone would hit Verizon’s network exclusively under the name the “DROID MAXX 2”. Now we have our first look at that upcoming device in some new images.
Right off the bat, it’s clear that this is essentially the exact same device as the Moto X Play. The design is nearly identical and it even has the same 3,630 mAh battery under the removable back cover. The back cover and the software really seem to be the only changes on this device. The back cover has a slightly different design and also some Verizon and DROID branding.
Screenshots from CPU-Z show off all the specs including the Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, 1080p resolution, and the 21MP camera on the rear. However it also reveals that this device may only have “8.14GB” of internal storage. With apps needing more and more storage, we can only hope this is a mistake as even the standard versions of the Moto X Play include 16GB or 32GB of storage.
This phone, unlike the previous DROID Turbo, is not designed to be a high end offering. It’s still expected that a high end DROID phone will launch later this year based off of the Moto X Style. Pricing or dates of availability are unknown for both these devices, but we’ll undoubtedly hear more as launch gets closer.Source: Android Police
