WSJ: Amazon Might Be Launching A $50 Tablet This Fall

Amazon was the company that kicked off the trend of sub-$200 devices, but that market was quickly flooded by other OEMs. The Fire lineup has always been pretty good, but the main advantage was always price. Now according to WSJ, Amazon is getting ready to launch a new 6-inch Fire tablet this fall that will sell for just $50.

Currently Amazon sells the Fire HD 6 for just $99, so in order to cut that price in half, the company is outsourcing the majority of developement to overseas firms. There’s no specifics on what this tablet will include in terms of specifications, but we do know that it will have a mono-speaker rather than dual. The same report also mentions that Amazon will also be launching new 8″ and 10″ tablets this fall, but nothing is known about those yet. It should certainly be interesting to see what Amazon can bring to the table with this $50 device. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
