We’re eagerly awaiting Google to announce the next generation of Nexus smartphones next week, but while we wait, leaks are always welcome. Tonight the guys over at Android Police have taken over the web by releasing three exclusive images helping to fill in the blanks on the next Nexus smartphones. Most notably, we get our first really good look at the Nexus 6P from Huawei.
The successor to last year’s Motorola Nexus 6, the Nexus 6P brings a very different design that is definitely going to turn heads, whether that be for the good or the bad. As pictured above, this phone has a pretty simply design on the front with it’s 5.7″ display and front facing speakers, but the back is what everyone is talking about. Aside from the Nexus and Huawei logos along with the fingerprint scanner, this phone has a massive black bar at the top which is definitely the first thing you’ll notice about the device. Other than the camera and flash, it’s unclear if this has any function or what that might be. Early reactions to this design aren’t in favor of it, but personally I don’t hate it.
The Nexus 6P is expected to bring a 5.7″ Quad-HD display with a Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood along with USB Type C support and 32-128GB of internal storage.
Along with this, Android Police got their hands on two separate images of the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X retail boxes. As usual, there’s a new design to this packaging from last year, and I’m really liking it so far. Now aside from what they look like, this packaging does help confirm the names of these new smartphones. Looking a bit closer at the top corners, the silhouettes of both devices do line up fairly closely with previous leaks.
Both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are expected to be unveiled at Google’s September 29th event alongside the public release of Android Marshmallow and possibly a second generation Chromecast. What are your thoughts so far of these devices? Are you planning to get either of them? Let us know in the comments below!
