Those Of You With The $7.99 Google Play Music Plan Will Get To Keep That Price With YouTube Red

A couple of days ago all of the details of Google’s long-awaited YouTube Red service finally got released to the public. The upcoming service will be launching on October 28th and will allow users to download videos for offline playback, listen to videos in the background, and most importantly, never see ads. This will come at a cost of $9.99 per month, but if you already subscribe to Google Play Music then you will get YouTube Red for free when it is released.

This is nice and all, but what about those of us who were the first adopters of Google Play Music? The ones who got in quick and locked-in the $7.99 per month plan? Good news, those of you who are locked-in to that $7.99 per month plan will get to keep that same price and still get YouTube Red. Remember, not only will you get YouTube Red for free if you are a Play Music subscriber, you will also get the upcoming YouTube Music service as well.

This news comes to us directly from Google who are sending out emails to users who are currently part of the $7.99 per month Google Play Music plan. Here is what that email entails:

We’re happy to let you know that your Music Key beta will become YouTube Red on October 28.

To say thanks for your help with Music Key, we’re transferring your subscription from the Music Key beta to YouTube Red and giving you a free month of YouTube Red starting on October 28. There’s no action needed from you. And if you choose to keep YouTube Red after November 28, you’ll receive the discounted price of $7.99 per month for as long as you’re a member.

YouTube Red gives you the same benefits as Music Key – ad-free videos, save offline and background play – across all of YouTube whenever you log in to YouTube or a YouTube app.

We learned during the beta that people wanted Music Key features to work with all YouTube videos, not just music. But that wasn’t all. We also learned that music fans like you wanted a unique home for YouTube’s catalog of songs and artists. That’s why we’re super excited to also announce the YouTube Music app (coming soon). YouTube Music is designed to make discovering, watching and listening to music easier than ever.

We hope you love your free trial membership of YouTube Red. Your first billing date will be */*/*. And you can always manage or cancel your membership in your settings.
