In an interview with Trusted Reviews, former ASUS CEO and current chairman Jonney Shih hinted that a successor to the Nexus 7 could be in the works. This third generation tablet could follow up on the huge success of the 2012 and 2013 Nexus tablets. According to Shih, it’s not a matter of working with Google or the logistics involved in actually producing the tablet, but simply how the company could improve on past iterations. With the 2013 Nexus 7 still proving an awesome tablet, it’s simple to see why the company would have a tough time beating it and making something as successful. To be clear, Shih is not confirming that a new Nexus 7 is coming, but simply that it’s not out of the question. He mentioned that we should “stay tuned”.
So how could Google and ASUS follow up on the success of the 2013 Nexus 7? There’s quite a few things. We could get front facing speakers, upgraded resolution, a bigger battery, fast charging, USB C, a faster processor, and much more. Depending on how these two companies work together on this tablet, we could get something pretty great out of it. In today’s world of giant phones and big tablets, it would be great to see something release to fill the gap. Would you like to see a new Nexus 7? Perhaps more importantly, would you buy one?
