Sony has always released multiple phones in the same family as that year’s flagship. With the original Xperia Z1, we also got the compact. This year with the Z5, we’ve also got the Compact and the Premium. For next year however, Sony could be bringing 5 different versions of their flagship device, the Sony Xperia Z6. The full list would include the following:
- Xperia Z6 – 5.2″ Display, Snapdragon 820
- Xperia Z6 Compact – 4.6″ Display, Snapdragon 820
- Xperia Z6 Plus – 5.8″ Display, Snapdragon 820
- Xperia Z6 Ultra – 6.4″ Display, Snapdragon 820
- Xperia Z6 Mini – 4″ Display, Snapdragon 620
It’s interesting to note that the Premium model doesn’t seem to be making a return, in place the Ultra line which has been absent the past two years comes back. The 4″ Mini variant is also a first for the Xperia family and should be a treat for those who are fans of smaller devices. It’s a bit disappointing to see the downgraded processor, but considering the lack of 4″ smartphones in the past few years it’s nice to see this arrive at all.
AnTuTu also reveals that the Sony Xperia Z6 and Xperia Z6 Plus will feature some form of pressure sensitive displays hinting at the possibility of a feature like 3D-Touch which is found on Apple’s latest iPhones. Sony isn’t expected to unveil these devices at CES next month, but rather at MWC a little later next year.
