According to a Reddit user, the Huawei Watch is currently in testing for a brand new update. This special user test group is currently receiving test builds of Android Wear 1.4, which is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Within this build there are a few new features, but the most notable is the addition of speaker support.
Google detailed this update a couple months ago and with the Huawei Watch’s built in speaker, it’s no surprise that this update finally enables it to be useful. The redditor notes that he was able to place and receive phone calls on the watch without ever having to pull out his smartphone. He also mentions that users will be able to choose ringtones for incoming calls and also enable text-to-speech functionality.
It’s completely unknown when this update is going to roll out to normal Huawei Watch users, but we can only hope it’ll be pretty soon. Hopefully that means Android Wear 1.4 will also be coming to other Android Wear devices in a similar timeframe.
